Challenge #165:Cephalopodic Ascendancy
Concept: Noctua Spell, Pistax
Story: Noctua Spell
Contributions from: Noctua Spell, Pistax, Flamestalker

Tagline : Do the Elder Gods exist? Look for proof of their existence and prepare for the Old Ones Rising.

Story:
“Elder gods?” Hildegard asked curiously.
“Yes. There are a considerable number of legends describing the existence of those gods that are said to instill madness upon all who encounter them.” Min-Jeong answered while drawing a rather bad looking rendition of a squid (?)… Hildegard tilted her head a bit. Maybe an elephant with tentacles…? She decided she better not ask as Min-Jeong continued explaining: “There are stories, for example in Hungary, about a countess who went mad and murdered a lot of people. It is said that if you gaze upon her portrait you go mad as well.”
“Would that have to do with elder gods though?” Hildegard asked curiously.
“Well… Not for sure, but something makes those who gaze upon it mad. As there’s no proof as to why it could be those elder ones. Furthermore, there’s also a mask in Africa...” Min-Jeong got interrupted by Agatha who plucked her dainty notebook from the table while scowling at it.
“This is nonsense Min-Jeong. I had expected better of you.” Agatha sneered. Min-Jeong glared and was about to retort when more explorers in the room interfered.
“A squid god with tentacles? That’s ridiculous. Why would it even have tentacles?” Anna remarked while she continued tinkering with her taser.
“There’s no other god but the one true lord.” Maria preached from her spot on the other side of the couch. She drew a cross in the air to ward off evil.
“We’ve seen some pretty weird stuff though guys, during our travels. There are gigantic birds and dinosaurs. There could be godly squids around too.” Philippe remarked while signalling Yu with a wink.
“I think I saw one last week! That fried god was delicious!” He proclaimed happily while clapping his hands obnoxiously.
“Those gods are lovely when you grill them too!” Harry put in his two cents while drawing a cross and dodging a book Maria threw at him for that.
“There are clues all over to the existence of elder gods if only you would search for them!” Emilia yelled before any of the pranksters could continue.
“I think you missed the joke here lady.” Yu remarked.
“No, I did not Yu. In fact, there are more items around. They are pretty rare but they do cause madness in certain ways. Not all as obvious as the countess’ portrait. But there’s talk of a talking voodoo head, those who search but do not lay eyes upon it go mad!” Emilia explained.
“Well... I suppose we could try. It could be pretty interesting to see Agatha go mad and actually see her smile.” Philippe decided. Agatha glared at him and just like usual, Philippe didn’t care.

Rules:
  • You cannot use explorers who are Religious or Sceptical*
  • Gather Treasures that can "prove" the existence of the Elder Gods**
  • You must play on Adventure mode.

    Notes:
    * Religious and Sceptical are personality traits certain explorers have, explorers with either of these two cannot be used for this challenge. They are: Anna, Agatha, Emilia, Dolores, Ivan, Maria and Kwame

** The following maddening treasures are considered valid as "proof" : Portrait of Erzsébet Báthory, Mask of Madness, Woolly Feather, Emerald Skull, Urquchillay Idol, Barked Face, Shrunken Head, Yeti Photo, Medal of Secrecy

Scoring:
Your Score is your Renown + Bonus Points

You get 2000 Bonus Points if you gather 3 of the treasures** and 500 more for every extra treasure. No penalty if you have too few, you'll just disappoint the Elder Gods
  • BRONZE: 3000 Points (1MP*)
  • SILVER: 8000 Points (2MP*)
  • GOLD: 15000 Points (3MP*)
  • PLATINUM: 20000 Points (3MP+**)
* Number of medal points awarded when playing on Classic Difficulty. Easy and Normal give less, according to these rules.
Gold and Platinum medals may only be achieved without losing, though Silver and Bronze are still possible to get with just the Record sheet for that trip.
** The platinum medal is extraordinary and can only be achieved on Classic or Impossible difficulty without losing. It doesn't increase Medal Points further than a Gold medal, but we will track how many you have.
